COMMITTEES

The Houston Area Urban League Guild is an auxiliary of our local affiliate, the Houston Area Urban League (HAUL). The mission of the Houston Area League Guild (HAUL Guild) is to stimulate, develop and promote volunteer participation and leadership within the local Guild in consistency with the goals and objective of the local affiliate, the Houston Area Urban League. The first Urban League Guild was established in 1942 by Mrs. Mollie Moon, to help raise revenue for the National Urban League. The Guild is the heart and soul of the Urban League Movement, contributing thousands of volunteer hours and financial support. The committees/focuses of the Houston Area Urban League Guild are:

Advocacy

Support and defend a particular cause or policy; or plead on behalf of others; participate in Town Halls, NUL Advocacy Certificate Program and the Legislative Policy Conference.

Budget & Finance

Keep an accurate record of the Guild's financial transactions, fully and consistent with the system established by the Houston Area Urban League; Reconciles all expenditures. Maintain duplicate records of all financial forms submitted.

Communication

Creates and manages information within the Guild (Email, GroupMe, Website and Band). Disseminates information received from Houston Area Urban League (HAUL) and/or National Council of Urban League Guilds (NCULG).

Digital & Social Media

Promotes HAUL Guild on various platforms of social media: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and our website. Creative marketing tools are used to increase the numbers of viewers.

Public Relations

Promotes the mission of HAUL Guild for various events. PR develops flyers, handles press releases, and broadcasts media (radio, TV, newspaper and magazines). Creative marketing tools are used to develop brochures, banners and signs.

Innovation & Technology

Manages HAUL Guild website. Provides strategic support and collaborates with the data systems webmaster for routine maintenance. Continuously updates the website to ensure the accuracy of its content. The content will impact our viewers (members, partners and sponsors).

Leadership Training & Development

Create a training & development curriculum for the Guild Executive Leadership Team (GELT) and Guild members. Maintain a solid, published schedule of training opportunities within the Guild. Encourage participation in the Annual Whitney M. Young, Jr. Leadership Development Conference.

Membership Development & Retention

Implement membership recruitment, recognition, networking and retention programming for HAUL Guild. Maintain accurate membership roster and distribute to financial members. Develop, maintain and distribute the Welcome Package to all new and renewing members
Host the quarterly membership socials.

Policies & Procedures (Bylaws)

Recommend and maintain any amendments to the Guild Bylaws & Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Ensure all financial members have copies of these documents when changes are implemented. This includes any internal documents that may developed for in-house usage.
